About OnStar Automatic Crash Response

Get a better understanding of how Automatic Crash Response† works in your vehicle and what steps are taken in the event of a crash.

How It Works

Automatic Crash Response works via sensors in the vehicle that can detect and gauge the severity of the crash without any input by the driver. The feature is available 24/7 to connect users with a live Advisor.

Details such as location, airbag deployment, speed and direction of impact are available to an Emergency-Certified Advisor† who can send for help even if the driver can’t. Injury Severity Prediction allows Advisors to inform First Responders about what they may encounter before arriving on scene.

Plan Requirements

The Automatic Crash Response feature requires an active plan. It is included with the following plans: Premium; Essentials; and Safety & Security.

For your security, please don’t include personal info such as phone number, address or credit card details.

Q&As

How can I manage my OnStar service?

You can manage your account online by signing into your GM Account, pushing the blue OnStar button in your vehicle to speak with an Advisor, or call 1.888.4ONSTAR (1.888.466.7827).

How is the Mobile Crash Response in the OnStar Guardian app different from the in-vehicle OnStar Automatic Crash Response?

The OnStar Guardian† app uses sensors in your smartphone to determine if it’s in a moving vehicle before it begins scanning to detect a crash. The Guardian app then alerts an OnStar Emergency-Certified Advisor, who will call your phone and contact First Responders as a mobile crash response. In-vehicle Automatic Crash Response is a service that uses embedded hardware, utilizing sensors to detect a crash and alert an Emergency-Certified Advisor. The in-vehicle Automatic Crash Response is available in any properly equipped GM vehicle, while the OnStar Guardian app extends this service to any vehicle you drive, ride in or share.
