Instead of gearing up for the weekend ahead and shouting TGIF, Thea Cassia was saying TGFO: Thank Goodness For OnStar!
Thea was driving on a Michigan freeway when traffic came to a sudden halt. Fortunately, she stopped in time to avoid hitting the car in front of her. The driver behind her, however, did not. He rear-ended her vehicle, causing it to slam into the guardrail, damaging her front and back bumpers.
“I was in complete shock. I didn’t know what had happened,” Thea says. “You look down at yourself and you hope you’re OK. I’m so thankful I have OnStar with services like Automatic Crash Response.”
Less than a second had passed when Thea realized someone was talking to her.
“An OnStar Advisor was asking if I was OK. He told me I had been in an accident and said they were calling an ambulance and the police. He asked if I was bleeding or if I felt like anything was broken. It made me feel better that there was someone there to make sure I was OK.”
Thankfully, Thea was not injured in the crash, but she was shaken up. “When you get into a car accident there’s no time to think and you don’t know what is going on,” she says.
“The Advisor called my mom right away. It made my mom less panicky knowing OnStar was there when she couldn’t be,” Thea says. The Advisor stayed on the line until help arrived.
Later, Thea found a silver lining in the incident. While her car was in the shop, she received a rental car equipped with the latest and greatest OnStar technology: a 2015 Chevrolet Impala connected by OnStar with 4G LTE and a built-in WiFi hotspot.
“Being in a car accident, having to deal with insurance and not having my car has been a real inconvenience, but being able to drive the new Chevy Impala made it better,” she says.
Thea is a recruiter for a technology services company, recruiting 60–80 entry-level positions every month for their associate consulting engineering program. Often driving back and forth from Detroit to the Chicago area where her company’s headquarters is located, Thea says, “The in-vehicle WiFi has helped me stay connected to my work when I travel.”
“There are many spots where cell phone service drops off on my drive to Chicago,” she adds. “Having the 4G LTE connection built into the car really helps. The 4G allows me to get up-to-date traffic and weather reports.”
Another feature that Thea says she couldn’t live without is the vehicle mobile app
“I use it to send directions from my phone to my car, locate my car when I can’t find it with the horn and lights feature and start my car on those cold Michigan mornings, even when I’m nowhere near it,” she says.
“OnStar offers so many great services,” Thea says. “And I was really impressed by their response time to rush to my side. Even though they weren’t physically there, having them on the line was comforting.”
